The encryption in the wireless connection shouldn't be an issue since it's en/decrypted at each end, and the Notes client/Domino server don't see it.
I looked at the original post, and, if all other apps are still working fine, then:
Does it work without VPN? As has been said, all that's needed is port 1352 TCP (not UDP). But if it works over the Internet via the Ethernet card, all that's fine...
What's the actual error message? 'Server not responding'? The email date issue is most likely that you are 'flipping' to a local replica because it can't find the server copy. This is hard to recognize without doing File } Datatel } Properties and looking at the filename/path.
